Is it just ADHD: Co-occurrences and more — Webinar with Dr Jess Eccles

Updated: Aug 22

Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting an eye-opening Webinar, featuring Dr. Jess Eccles form the BSMS, titled “Is it just ADHD: Co-occurrences and more.”

This was organised by the amazing charity I volunteer for, ADHD Aware.

Dr. Eccles didn’t just discuss ADHD; she explored how it often coexists with other disorders. This focus on the bigger and broader picture is vital for those seeking clarity about their experiences of neurodivergence.

Understanding ADHD and Its Co-occurrences

ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition, marked by symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Many people do not realize that ADHD rarely appears alone. Research shows that approximately 50% of individuals with ADHD also struggle with anxiety disorders. Additionally, studies indicate that around 30% experience depression.

Dr. Eccles talked about co-occurring conditions such as Hypermobility, POTS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) amongst others.

Personal Reflection and Key Takeaways

Dr. Eccles' insights resonated with my own experiences. For years, I struggled to understand why those neurodivergent individuals who I support often had anxiety intertwined with my ADHD.

I thought the Webinar was invaluable for anyone wishing to understand ADHD and other conditions which often accompany it.
